A leading brand in the Sri Lankan tourism industry, NKAR Travels & Tours (Pvt) Ltd., has instigated a revolutionary task recently. Even when the industry was in jeopardy, the NKAR team did their duty to revive tourism in Sri Lanka by initiating projects such as ‘Save the Sri Lankan Smile’.
In the wake of the revitalization of Sri Lankan tourism, NKAR went on a team hike to the newly initiated Pekoe Trail. The Pekoe Trail is the first and foremost long-distance walking trail in Sri Lanka. Spanning a whopping 300 kilometers amidst the verdant hill country of the island, it covers 3 districts and 2 provinces. The Pekoe Trail was designed as a community-based tourism concept to enhance the livelihood of people living in the localities surrounding the trail.
NKAR used this opportunity to enliven the team spirit of the company by hiking the first stage of the Pekoe Trail in four groups. This is to adhere to the sustainable nature of the hike and minimize disturbances to the trail environment.
The hike team, as responsible travelers, endeavored to collect garbage in and around the trail and gifted stationery to the needy children in the area. The hike was meticulously organized and a great success. All members of the staff were able to finish this 12-kilometer hike from Hanthana to Galaha.
