A Second Chance in the Wild

In the heart of Sri Lanka’s wilderness, hope returns to where it truly belongs. Recently, six orphaned elephants took their long-awaited steps back into the wild. They were released from the Elephant Transit Home (ETH) to the vast grasslands of Udawalawe National Park. Each of these gentle giants arrived at ETH as vulnerable calves. They were orphaned, injured, or lost. With dedicated care, they learned to find food, interact with other elephants, and grow strong enough to survive on their own.
When the day finally comes for an elephant to stand proudly on its own, it receives the greatest gift of all ‘ freedom.
Their release is not just an ending; it’s a new beginning. It’s a second chance to live the wildlife they were meant for.
One day, our little ‘’ Adira ‘’ the orphaned elephant sponsored by NKAR Travels too will also take this bold step into the wilderness. The day she ventures into the wild will bring a mix of emotions for all of us at NKAR Travels. We will feel pride, hope, and the sorrow that comes with saying goodbye to someone you love. But above all, it will remind us why we do what we do- to give Sri Lanka’s wildlife the freedom it deserves. Here’s to second chances and to Adira’s brave new journey when her day comes.
